About
Cathie Bird!

The messy middle is where real business happens.

I spent 20+ years building businesses while figuring marketing out the hard way. Now I teach small business owners what I wish someone had shown me sooner.

The real story behind Baby Gift Box and the moment Digital Birdie was born.

THE SHORT VERSION

I'm Cathie.

I spent almost two decades building Baby Gift Box from scratch into a real eCommerce business with warehouses, staff, suppliers, systems, pressure, and all the moving parts that come with running a business properly.

Like most small business owners, I was still across everything.

No mentor. No clear roadmap. Just a lot of trial and error, late nights, and figuring things out while real life kept moving around me.

So I taught myself the marketing side. Facebook Ads. Google Ads. SEO. Websites. Email marketing. Funnels. Strategy.

Not because I wanted to become a marketer.

Because I wanted to understand what actually moved the business forward.

And over time, I realised something most business owners are never properly shown:

Marketing is not meant to be built in disconnected pieces.

Most small business owners are not stuck because they are not trying hard enough.
They are stuck because they are solving marketing problems out of order.

That became the foundation of Digital Birdie.

Built for the woman running a real business, doing the marketing herself, and wondering why nothing seems to connect into a system.

The woman stuck in the Random Messy Middle, not knowing yet that there is a way out.

THE FULL STORY

When I started Baby Gift Box, I had no formal business background and no marketing training.

Just a product idea, a stubborn streak, and a willingness to figure things out.

So that’s what I did.

One platform at a time.
One tool at a time.
One mistake, then a slightly better version of that mistake.

Over time, the business grew into a real operation. A team. Warehouses across Brisbane, Canberra, and the Sunny Coast. Systems, suppliers, logistics, customer service, inventory management, marketing, and all the moving parts most people never see behind a business.

And like most business owners, I was doing a bit of everything.

Marketing often sat around the edges while I focused on keeping the business moving, which is exactly where so many small business owners still find themselves now.

So I learned it myself.

Facebook Ads. Google Ads. LinkedIn Ads. SEO. Email marketing. Websites. Funnels. Strategy.

Not because I wanted to become an expert in every platform, but because I wanted owner-level understanding of what actually moved the business forward.

Everywhere I looked, marketing advice came in disconnected pieces.

Run ads.
Post more.
Fix your website.
Try this strategy.
Follow this formula.

And individually, a lot of it made sense.

But nobody explained how the pieces actually fit together in the right order for a real business with real constraints.

That was the missing piece.

I spent years filling that gap through trial and error, testing, rebuilding, learning, and slowly piecing together how marketing actually works as a connected system.

And somewhere along the way, I realised something most marketing advice never says out loud.

Small business owners are not stuck because they are not trying hard enough.
They are stuck because they are solving marketing problems out of order.
And every step taken out of order is costing them time, money, and confidence.

Running ads before the website converts.
Creating content before the message is clear.
Chasing visibility before the foundations are ready.

It’s like trying to build a house by putting the roof on first. Eventually, everything feels heavier than it should.

That insight became the foundation of everything Digital Birdie teaches today.

At the same time, something else was shifting too.

I started realising the part I loved most was no longer just building my own business. It was understanding how the pieces connected and helping other business owners finally see it clearly too.

Before Digital Birdie, I briefly joined another business that supported people learning how to grow online. At first it felt aligned, but over time the direction shifted further away from the kind of support I believed small business owners actually needed.

The accessible entry price point became unrealistic and the people it was supposed to help were slowly being left behind.

I remember sitting with that feeling of disappointment while also feeling crystal clear at the same time.

This is not my lane.
This is not my voice.
This is not how I want to teach.

So I stepped away and built Digital Birdie instead.

I tried doing both businesses for a while, but eventually I knew I had reached the point where I could not fully pour myself into two different paths at once.

Closing Baby Gift Box after 19 years was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made.

Walking away from something stable and familiar to start again was terrifying at times.

But I also knew if I ignored the pull toward Digital Birdie, I would spend years wondering what would have happened if I had actually given it a real chance.

So I took the leap.
And it became one of the best decisions I’ve made.

Today, I work with start-ups, young entrepreneurs, mums building businesses around family life, service businesses, eCommerce brands, online businesses, and established growing franchises.

But no matter the business model, the moment I love most is always the same.

The moment the system finally clicks and they get it - the "aha" moments.

When someone stops guessing, stops feeling behind, stops trying random tactics.

And finally understands how everything connects.

That’s why I do this.

Cathie x

Digital Birdie is the business I intentionally built around the life I actually want. Serving the people I deeply resonate with. Being present for my family, and doing work I genuinely love.

This is why Digital Birdie exists

Leaving Baby Gift Box after 19 years was not easy. I could run that business in my sleep. But comfort and alignment are not always the same thing.

I have a daughter in her final year of school, and I want the flexibility to be present as she steps into her next chapter. A husband, now retired, who I’d actually like to travel with. Sunday mornings that belong to me, Charlie our dog, and a long walk where most of the good ideas seem to find me.

For the first time in a long time, this chapter feels intentionally built.

And then there’s the teaching side of this business.

That part actually started long before Digital Birdie.

In my corporate years, I travelled throughout regional Queensland teaching cane farmers how the sugar market worked. How their crop was priced, how futures markets in New York influenced what they were paid, and how foreign exchange shifted the numbers behind the scenes.

I was only a few years out of university, standing in front of rooms full of people twice my age who had every reason to tune me out.

I learned very quickly that knowing something is not enough.

You have to make it make sense for the person sitting in front of you.

That’s where I learned the power of simple analogies, real-life examples, and grounded explanations that people can actually connect with.

And honestly, that’s what I’ve been practising my whole career.

Digital Birdie brings all of it together.

Two decades of real business experience.
A teaching style built long before I ever called myself an educator.
And a marketing gap I personally lived through and solved the hard way.

Because most business owners don’t need more disconnected tactics.

They need someone to help them finally see how the pieces fit together.

Messy buns welcome. Messy middles too.

Because building a business and building a life usually happen at the same time.

Digital Birdie is for you if...

You’ve outgrown random marketing advice but are not quite ready to hand everything over to an agency either.

You’re no longer brand new to business, but marketing still feels more disconnected than it should.

You’re capable, committed, and working hard, but tired of second-guessing what actually matters.

You want to understand how marketing works as a system, not just collect more tactics.

You care about building a real business with long-term foundations, not chasing overnight success.

You’re ready to replace scattered effort with calmer, clearer marketing that finally connects properly.

Digital Birdie probably isn’t for you if...

You’re looking for quick hacks, overnight success, or someone to promise instant results.

This is for business owners who want to understand marketing so they can apply it within their business to achieve sustainable growth.

What I believe. The non-negotiables behind everything Digital Birdie creates.

Clarity should be accessible, not exclusive.

Marketing education should not only exist for people who can afford to spend thousands of dollars upfront. Digital Birdie is priced intentionally so the woman who needs it most can actually say yes.

Understanding beats blindly following.

When you understand why your marketing works, you can adapt as your business, audience, and platforms evolve. When you only follow formulas, everything falls apart the moment the formula stops working. I teach the why, not just the steps.

Hype is not a teaching method.

No fake urgency. No manufactured scarcity. No income screenshots without context. No promises I cannot  genuinely stand behind. Most small business owners have already been overwhelmed by enough noise.

Real businesses deserve real systems.

Whether you run a service business, an eCommerce brand, or an online business, the foundations still apply. Because the Birdie Method is built on how marketing actually works, not on copying one business model and pretending it fits everyone.

Marketing in under 5 hours a week is not a compromise. It's the goal.

The woman I build for already has a business, a family, responsibilities, and a life she wants this business to support. She does not need more pressure. She needs clearer structure.

The experience behind the teaching.

Real business experience across eCommerce, marketing systems, paid ads, teaching, and building brands from the ground up. Everything here was learned inside real business life, not borrowed from theory.

Content and Messaging

The B.I.R.D framework built from real-world experience of what moves people from discovering a brand to trusting it enough to buy, without relying on salesy tactics.

Digital Birdie

Built from scratch using the five-layer system Cathie teaches. Every framework, message, offer and sales pathway is actively used inside the business itself.
